EA’s Patrick Soderlund stated in an interview with Game Informer that “I won’t lie and say we haven’t looked at it. But for us, it’s about weighing where we spend our resources.” I can understand his reasoning. Why spend time touching up a game that people are still buying when you can put all that energy into the latest title?
He continued:
I can’t say that I completely agree with this statement, as there are lots of games that I love to go back and play that still hold up pretty well today. Not every single game needs a remaster, but showing your old titles some love could reinvigorate the franchise and build plenty of hype for the upcoming Andromeda release.
It’s also important to note that Microsoft recently stated at E3 that the Xbox One will be getting an update that makes it backwards compatible. This could play some part in the developer’s decision to just move forward with the next game. On a more positive side Xbox players new to the franchise will be able to get the original trilogy for a cheaper price. As for Playstation 4 owners, the original Mass Effect as well as Mass Effect 2 are available for the PlayStation Now streaming service.
The Mass Effect Trilogy is available for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. The latest entry in the franchise Mass Effect: Andromeda is set for release this holiday season. For more information check out the E3 trailer below.
